Why are people following you?

Just a quick post with some food for thought.


Have you stopped to consider why your Twitter followers are actually following you? I see a lot of individuals and brands with thousands of followers, but does that mean they have a greater social authority and influence?

I don’t think so.

In my opinion, the only way you can gain value from social media is if consumers are following you because they either believe in your brand or are interested in the content and messages you’re providing.

Are you being followed for the right reasons, or have you grown your audience through reciprocal following … you know, “I’ll follow you if you follow me”.

Try to focus more on attracting followers through making your brand interesting, engaging and relevant, rather than through the adoption of fruitless mass reciprocal tactics.
